In episode 75, at 17:57, WisdomAI’s Kapil Chhabra uses a quarter-based question to explain the need. Finance may mean a fiscal quarter while marketing means a calendar quarter. A metric definition alone does not resolve which interpretation the question needs.

Chhabra’s proposed context layer includes instructions and worked query examples alongside those definitions. In the memory discussion, Chhabra distinguishes company-approved definitions from an individual’s preferences. Someone’s preferred chart format should not change the shared definition of churn.

In the semantic-layer comparison, Chhabra adds natural-language instructions and examples of good queries to metric definitions. This is why the guest describes the context layer as broader than a semantic layer or catalog.

The interview was sponsored by WisdomAI. These are the guest’s architectural claims, not evidence that adding a context layer guarantees correct answers.

Our distinction: context engineering covers choosing and maintaining the information supplied to a model. A context graph represents business entities and relationships with rules attached. A context layer describes the role of shared context without requiring that graph representation.
